Description

The Instrument Technician - Alliance Refinery performs preventive maintenance, calibration and repairs on refinery instrumentation. The work schedule is normally five eight hour days. They are expected to adhere: strict observance of ethical guidelines, strict observance of environmental and engineering laws, guidelines and standards, and to provide leadership in health, safety and environmental performance. Additionally, this person is expected to follow all corporate Health, Safety and Environmental policies and guidelines

Responsibilities may include :

  • Troubleshooting, removing, repairing and re-installing of to include control loops, controllers, transmitters, pressure and flow meters, gauges, recorders, sensors, meters, automated valves and switches and instruments
  • Troubleshooting instrumentation controlled by distributed control systems (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC)
  • Troubleshooting and repairing rotating equipment, vibration and temperature monitoring systems
  • Performing instrument calibration, trace and test analog and digital circuits and components to locate defective parts, check interlocks, check automatic pneumatic furnace shutdown systems, maintains environmental monitoring systems for air and water and maintains process analyzers for product quality
  • Performing preventative maintenance and maintenance as scheduled, as required, as well as during turn arounds and outages
  • Interpreting of schematic diagrams according to common industry practice, read and interprets process and instrument diagrams

Qualifications

Basic/Required :

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Maintain a valid driver's license
  • Associate's degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, or Engineering Technology or 3 years or more of industrial instrumentation experience
  • Must possess a valid Transportation Workers' Identification Credential (TWIC) or qualify for a TWIC card by start date
  • Must be willing and able, with or without accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:
  • Work overtime (including weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts)

  • Lift up to 50 pounds

  • Work in enclosed spaces such as tanks and silos

  • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines

  • Climb up to 200 feet in height; work at elevated heights

  • Work around chemicals, including acids and bases

  • Wear Nomex fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toed shoes, ear/eye protection)

  • Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly

  • Ability to be on call and respond to callouts during off hours due to business necessity

  • Work outside in harsh weather conditions

  • Ability to lift, climb, walk, kneel, and squat on a regular basis

Preferred :

  • 5 or more years of experience in lock out/tag out procedures
  • 5 or more years of refinery maintenance, turnaround and/or shutdown work experience
  • Experience developing analysis methods and performing troubleshooting and repairs
  • Demonstrated communications and teamwork skills
  • SAP proficiency
  • Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions, identify corrective actions, and analyze/document complex inspection and repair information
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Proactive and results-oriented
  • Able to effectively interact with all organizational levels and value diversity

The Alliance Refinery is located 20 miles south of New Orleans on Highway 23. The refinery was built in 1971 and is one of the last world-scale grassroots refineries built in the United States.
