Description

Phillips 66 Canada currently has a six (6) month contract assignment for a F&PA Financial Analyst . Reporting to the Director of Financial Performance and Analysis, the position is primarily responsible for analyzing and reporting monthly and quarterly Trading results, variance analysis and business process improvements. Results will be reported to local management in addition to various stakeholders in our Houston headquarters.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Reconciling Mark to Market to GAAP results and report findings.

  • Analyzing earnings due to LIFO inventory valuations and volumetric movements.

  • Forecasting GAAP earnings based on inventory, price and MtM forecasts.

  • Performing monthly and quarterly Balance Sheet variance analysis.

  • Analyzing and explaining earnings related to FX impacts.

  • Calculating margin impacts to refineries and communicate to the closing group.

  • Completing monthly Keystone Pipeline transportation accrual.

  • Performing monthly loads into global reporting systems.

  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with Supply Directors, Traders, Schedulers and US counterparts.

  • Understanding the intent of transactions to ensure accurate reporting and earnings results.

  • Tracking, calculating and reporting counterparty credit exposures.

  • Working closely with Houston counterparts to ensure Canadian reporting is consistent with other business units.

  • Cross training on other activities to provide vacation coverage and develop a big picture understanding of our business.

  • Participating in business improvement projects as a needed.

  • Participating in the development of F&PA group goals and work plans.

  • Providing insightful and timely responses to adhoc queries.

  • Creating Trading monthly management reports.

Position Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 3-5 years of Oil and Gas experience (preferably in crude oil marketing and trading)

  • CPA/CFA designation an asset

  • Accounting and finance knowledge (preferable in crude oil marketing/trading finance)

  • Knowledge of crude oil markets and crude pricing

  • Experience with derivative accounting

  • Experience with SAP and OMS (asset)

  • Preference will be given to individuals with Crude Oil Marketing Accounting experience

  • Strong MS Excel skills

  • Exceptional problem solving and proven analytical skills as well as attention to detail

  • Critical thinker with an ability to provide creative solutions to complex issues

  • Self-motivated, able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and prioritize work

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to be an effective team player

  • Possess an orientation to service and meeting customer’s needs
