Phillips 66 is currently accepting applications for an Mechanical Team Lead position within the Engineering Design organization at the Phillips 66 Research Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. This position will primarily lead a small design team responsible for providing engineering and reliability support for laboratory and pilot plant functions. The position will also provide support site wide for maintenance projects. The individual will be responsible for completing and reviewing mechanical designs for piping systems, structural components, vessels, and machines in support of facilities, laboratories, and pilot plants.
Responsibilities May Include
Performing job duties safely and championing the safety of others.
Working closely with design engineers, process engineers, machinists, and mechanical inspectors to create designs.
Providing site maintenance support, as needed. Technical support for projects and long-term preventive/predictive maintenance (including PM development and implementation) for mechanical equipment.
Ensuring that design documentation for systems and processes are accurate and maintained
Contacting clients, developing scopes of work (including gathering field information), and design solutions to meet the needs of the groups supported.
Applying knowledge of industry and company standards to design activities
Utilizing drafting conventions and techniques using company CAD software (AutoCAD)
Working with lab, pilot plant and crafts groups to implement mechanical designs and maintain systems
Sharing reliability best practices by participating on and contributing to the site mechanical integrity committee
Collaborating and communicating effectively with project stakeholders
Developing relationships with external contractors and managing related workflows to accelerate design and engineering efforts.
Providing technical support to PSM covered areas (PHAs, Process Safety Information, etc.), as well as to rotating and fixed equipment inspection, testing and maintenance activities
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
Proactive approach to safety with a good working safety record
5 or more years of experience with mechanical design, pressure vessel design/fabrication, piping design/fabrication, or a related field
5 or more years of experience demonstrating effective interpersonal skills with the ability to positively interact and establish relationships with internal/external customers, evaluate alternatives and make decisions based on sound business criteria
5 or more years of experience with industry codes and standards (ASME Section VIII Division1, ASME B31.3, API 510, API 570)
5 or more years of experience working with process safety management and mechanical integrity programs
Experience working in a refinery/petrochemical plant, OR with related industrial equipment (such as vessels, pumps, compressors, etc.)
Previous experience with 2D and 3D CAD software
Verbal and written communication skills
Track record of innovation and problem solving
Advanced level of proficient in Microsoft Office software
Willingness and ability (with or without a reasonable accommodation) to perform/comply with following:
Climb ladders and stairs
Wear personal protective equipment
Work outside in a variety of weather conditions
5 or more years of experience directly supervising engineers and designers
10 or more years of engineering and design experience
Professional Engineer license
Proficient with SAP PM, PCMS and/or other inspection and maintenance software
Experience with pressure vessel and piping design, fabrication, maintenance, and inspection
Basic understanding of refinery and chemical plant operations
Able to organize and prioritize work and manage several projects simultaneously
Demonstrated mechanical proficiency
Working knowledge of ASME, ASTM and API standards and codes for pressure vessels, pressure relief devices design and inspection
Working knowledge of corrosion mechanisms, metallurgy, process instrumentation, automation, and electrical design
Experience managing vendors, contractors, or 3rd parties
Project management experience
