Phillips 66 2021 Technical Intern - Borger Refinery Mechanic in Borger, Texas

The Mechanic Intern will participate in the Student Internship Program which provides opportunities for career success through hands-on learning experiences. Students apply subject matter knowledge learned in a certificate or associate program to the workplace and develop technical and interpersonal skills in the workplace. It is important for student interns to participate as contributing and active members of their craft team. Interns are expected to effectively communicate with all levels of the team and to ask questions that facilitate learning while respecting the professional demands and experience of their co-workers.
internship activities may include the following:
Shadow and support experienced employees while effectively following all safety, health, environmental, maintenance, and operation practices and procedures
Demonstrate work related knowledge by assisting technicians/mechanics in varying daily tasks on compressors, pumps, fans and other mechanical equipment
Learn about health, safety and environmental hazards
Witness the work authorization permit system
Witness energy isolation (e.g. Lock, Tag & Try)
Learn how to recognize and report incidents and near-misses
Stop unsafe work or practices
Provide inspection, testing, and documentation of safety systems to meet OSHA regulations.
Make rounds along with a qualified Operator or Stillman and may be asked to assist in taking readings
Monitor normal operational conditions
Assist with pre-startup safety reviews and new project technical reviews.
Work schedule is normally days, Monday through Friday.
Communicate well with all organizational levels and present information / ideas in an articulate and organized way.
Expected to work effectively in a team environment.
Demonstrate a willingness and enthusiasm to learn
Requirements for a Phillips 66 Technical Internship:
Basic Required:
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
High School Diploma/GED equivalent
Currently enrolled in and pursuing an associate’s degree OR certificate in Natural Gas Compression, Industrial Mechanical Technologies, Industrial Systems Maintenance, Pump and Engine or similar program
Graduation date in Summer 2021 or later
Completed a minimum of 12 hours in the enrolled program
Must be at least 18 years of age
Maintain a valid driver's license
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Able to work a minimum of 10 to 12 consecutive weeks during the summer months
Must be willing and able, with or without accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:
Lift up to 50 pounds
Work in enclosed spaces such as tanks and silos
Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
Climb up to 200 feet in height; work at elevated heights
Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toed shoes, ear/eye protection)
Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly
Work outside in harsh weather conditions
Preferred:
Previous work experience as an intern or co-op participant in a related industry
Previous work experience as an intern with Phillips 66
