The Maintenance Leadoff, Borger Refinery performs a wide variety of manual labor tasks with varying day-to-day work assignments and is a lead worker. The starting rate of pay for a Leadoff is $36.11/hour with the ability to reach top Leadoff pay within 48 months which is currently $49.24/hour.

This position requires successful completion of skills testing and an on-site interview. Candidates who receive an offer of employment will then be required to successfully complete a pre-employment due diligence process that consists of, but not limited to, a background check, medical, hearing, respiratory and vision exams and agility testing.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Installation and removal of piping and piping components, rigging, work on vessels, exchangers, towers, and tanks

  • Operating motorized and manual equipment which may include carry deck cranes, manlifts, and forklifts

  • Reading and interpreting engineered drawings

  • Performing work activities that include pulling, lifting, twisting, working in confined spaces, and on elevated platforms

  • Wearing fall protection and elevated PPE

  • Obtaining permits to work, hot work, and confined space entry permits

  • Using fire equipment when necessary along with many other general maintenance activities

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license

  • Willingness to comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:

    • Work extended shifts and overtime, which may include some weekends and holidays

    • Work in enclosed/confined spaces, such as tanks and silos

    • Work near large, hot, high-speed machines

    • Work around chemicals, including acids and bases

    • Work outside in harsh weather conditions

    • Climb up to 250 feet in height

    • Lift a minimum of 50 pounds

    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NCCER certification (or equivalent) as a Pipefitter or Boilermaker or the equivalent work experience

  • Associate degree or higher from an accredited school

  • 2 or more years of recent continuous full-time work experience

  • 2 or more years of mechanically related Military experience

  • 2 or more years of experience working in maintenance in a refinery, chemical, power, nuclear, wastewater treatment, or pharmaceutical industry

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Strong oral/written communication skills and the ability to interact and work in a team environment

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Accepts ownership, is accountable, and delivers on commitments

The Borger Refinery is located in Borger, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle, approximately 50 miles north of Amarillo, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes primarily medium sour crude oil produced locally, and heavy sour crude oil produced in Canada, all of which are delivered by pipeline. Borger produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, as well as petroleum coke, NGLs and solvents. Refined products are distributed to customers via pipelines from the refinery to West Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and the Midcontinent region.
