The Litigation Legal Specialist is a PARALEGAL position responsible for handling all phases of litigation, arbitration, and case management, with a heavy emphasis on discovery. We are looking for a high-performing paralegal who is flexible, adapts well to changes in priorities, and operates with a high level of integrity. Success will require the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities May Include
Investigating facts underlying litigation and arbitration disputes.
Working with outside counsel, experts and fact witnesses.
Issuing Legal Hold Orders.
Coordinating and conducting in-house document custodian interviews.
Utilizing a discovery database to support case needs.
Serving as a point of contact for outside counsel and Phillips 66 business units on all assigned cases.
Managing discovery for multiple litigation and arbitration matters.
Working closely with Global Discovery Coordinators through the legal hold, preservation, collection, review and production phases using the Phillips 66 discovery process.
Working with Phillips 66 business units in the investigation of incidents.
Maintaining an electronic case file and managing the documents to be retained.
Accurately updating data in Legal’s matter management system.
Evaluating liability and projecting financial impact using a decision tree risk analysis program with input from outside and in-house counsel.
Preparing annual case budgets with input from outside and in-house.
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
Bachelor's Degree or higher
5 or more years of litigation experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
Demonstrated aptitude for technology, with a focus on discovery platforms and databases
Demonstrated Paralegal experience handling large-scale, complex litigation and discovery efforts
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Comprehensive legal project management skills with a highly developed understanding of the litigation process including all phases of discovery (legal hold, preservation, collection, processing, review, production and trial support) in both State and Federal Court Courts
Experience drafting and issuing legal hold orders using standardized legal hold software
Advanced proficiency (3 years or more) in Relativity or similar discovery software
Demonstrated understanding of Structured Analytics principles (email threading, near duplicate identification) and Conceptual Analytics (technology assisted review, clustering, concept visualization) to bring efficiencies to the discovery process
Experience in general commercial, tort, toxic tort, personal injury, environmental and employment litigation and arbitration disputes
Ability to manage and prioritize assignments that may be broad in scope and complexity and that may involve collaborative work with employees and management in other business units
Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines with little supervision
High level analytical skills with the ability to clearly articulate alternatives, recommendations, or proposed solutions
Ability to quickly learn and apply current and future technology applications and processes
Adherence to the application of Company policies and procedures
Experience in the oil and gas industry
