The Shift Supervisor works under the general guidance of the Department Superintendent. The primary role of the Shift Supervisor is to advise, coordinate, authorize, follow-up, and supervise Operations Department personnel.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Directing the day to day activity of operators on your assigned crew, including scheduling work assignments, monitoring operator training process and assisting with training as necessary

  • Understanding & enforcing policies and procedures

  • Controlling operating areas at planned rates and taking direct action if a deviation should occur in planned rates and instructions

  • Reviewing and following guidelines & PMs as written by the Process Supervisors

  • Responding to all emergencies

  • Handling and resolving environmental issues (e.g. flaring, releases, odors, community complaints, etc.)

  • Making proper notifications (to Superintendent, Process Supervisors, Engineers, Reliability, Environmental, Maintenance, Safety, etc.) concerning injuries, emergencies, environmental upsets including flaring, rate deviations and unit upsets

  • Guiding, counseling, and motivating operators in the field

  • Promoting safety awareness, conducting safety meetings and complying with relevant management standards; investigating all incidents that occur on your assigned shift

  • Authorizing critical permits (hot work permits, confined space); auditing critical work in process

  • Handling aspects of scheduling (schedule changes, overtime, etc.)

  • Approving callout of maintenance on off-hours/weekends and following-up on maintenance work to see that maintenance is done in a timely manner

  • Training on other process unit areas outside of expertise

Position Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Valid in-state driver’s license

  • 5 or more years of direct experience in Operations

  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 or more years of direct Supervisory experience

  • 1 or more years of Honeywell DCS experience or equivalent

  • Proficient (perform the skill with limited assistance) with SAP

  • Proficient (preform the skill with limited assistance) in Microsoft Word

  • Ability to coordinate and provide leadership for multiple issues and prioritize them appropriately

  • Ability to handle emergencies in an effective manner

  • Ability to read, understand, and execute facility operating procedures

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and to solve operational problems

  • Ability to operate computer control equipment

  • Ability to work as a member of a team to resolve problems and plan work

  • Commitment to follow established safety procedures

  • Accepts ownership and delivers on commitments

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills

  • Problem Solving ability

The Los Angeles Refinery consists of two linked facilities located five miles apart in Carson and Wilmington, California. The Carson facility processes crude oil, and the Wilmington facility upgrades the intermediate products to finished products. The facilities include crude distillation, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking and delayed coking units. The refinery processes mainly heavy, high-sulfur crude oil. It receives domestic crude oil by pipeline from California, Canadian crude via rail, and both foreign and domestic crude oil by tanker through a third-party terminal in the Port of Long Beach. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. The refinery produces CARB-grade gasoline. Other products include petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed to California, Nevada and Arizona by pipeline and truck.

Compensation

The base pay range for this role is $123,500.00 - $136,500.00 depending on a candidate's relevant work experience and education.

This position is eligible for the Phillips 66 geographic differential pay program. Details and terms to be conveyed in offer of employment.
