Description

Working with the Laboratory Analytical Team, the main focus for the response chemist role is to be responsible for calibration and maintenance of instruments within the shift laboratory. The role is also respsonsible for occasional routine and ad-hoc analysis ensuring it is carried out in a timely and accurate manner consistent with the enhancement of the Refinery operation whilst maintaining high levels of safety. The role also provides cover and support for analytical labs with expertise in at least one area.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Contribute towards positive safety culture

  • Provide analytical cover as required

  • Ensures schedule testing is carried out in a timely and accurate manner

  • Cross train in different areas of the Laboratory.

  • Calibrate, adjust and maintain instruments on a routine basis.

  • Maintain Instrument SQC process

  • Conversant with analytical techniques and method development. Revise methods to meet the needs of users and compliance with internal and external quality standard requirements.

  • Communicate and consult with customers with regard to testing requirements and priorities.

  • Ensure all interested parties are informed of unusual or off specification results.

  • Perform special analytical testing as directed by supervision.

  • Support in house systems e.g. Atlas, SIMDIS and LabVantage LIMS

  • Provide additional testing capability during unit upsets and periods of high workload on shifts.

  • Completes HSE & quality audits as required.

Position Requirements

Basic/Required:

  • Legally authorised to work in the job posting country

  • Minimum A Level qualifcation or equivilent including at least one STEM stubject

  • Industrial Laboratory experience

  • Knowledge of Laboratory testing and procedures and its relation to production

  • Experience of maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment

  • Ability to develop methods and procedures.

  • Ability to train others.

Preferred:

  • Science related degree qualification or equivilent

  • Refinery Laboratory experience

The Humber Refinery is located on the east coast of England in North Lincolnshire, United Kingdom, approximately 180 miles north of London. Humber's facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, hydrodesulfurization, thermal cracking and delayed coking units. The refinery has two coking units with associated calcining plants, which produce high-value graphite and anode petroleum cokes. It processes crude oil supplied primarily from the North Sea and includes light, low- and medium-sulfur and acidic crude oil. Humber produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. It is the only coking refinery in the United Kingdom, and a major producer of specialty graphite cokes and anode coke. Approximately 70 percent of the light oils produced by the refinery are distributed to customers in the United Kingdom by pipeline, rail car and truck, while the other products are exported to the rest of Europe, West Africa and the United States.
