Reporting to the San Francisco IT Area Lead, the Rodeo IT Infrastructure Analyst will provide technical support to business users at Rodeo Refinery, Midstream, Lubricants and Government Affairs regional locations. This role will provide troubleshooting, management, monitoring, and hands on support for internal telecommunications systems in the site’s geographical support area (examples may include cable plant – cooper and fiber, switches, routers, wireless ethernet, desktop). The role will collaborate with central infrastructure support teams to plan and execute telecommunication refresh activities. The role will participate in corporate technical knowledge sharing / best practice networks.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Proactively monitoring system infrastructure performance

  • Troubleshooting and mitigating infrastructure performance issues

  • Building and maintaining relationships with technical partners in the business (e.g. Midstream I&E Technician)

  • Coordinating resources and suppliers to complete projects and work requests

  • Collaborating with central infrastructure support to plan and execute network hardware refresh

  • Optimizing IT service delivery by improving reliability, efficiency, quality and cost effectiveness of defined components of services while following corporate standards and safety practices, and especially in discovering and propagating best practices

  • Maintaining documentation of supported systems

  • Provide desk side support for personal computing environments

  • After-hours (call-out) support of critical infrastructure

Position Requirements


  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • 3 or more years of direct experience in troubleshooting Infrastructure Systems

  • Proven ability to master and apply advanced and specialized technical training

  • Proven ability to work well with business, and local and remote IT resources

  • Willing and able to provide day-to-day and after-hours support (24x7) as appropriate

  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in the refinery around process equipment

  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Information can be found at

  • Compliance with refinery safety requirements including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment when necessary

  • Physical requirements:

  • Able to lift computer equipment that weighs up to 30 lbs. from the floor and safely carry up 4 flights of stairs

  • Able to bend, stoop, or crawl under furniture to connect wiring

  • Able to bend to pick up equipment and load pull cart

  • Able to lift an individual item weighing up to 30 lbs.

  • Able to push/pull equipment on a cart of up to 100 lbs.

  • Able to climb 4 or more flights of stairs to access field hardware


  • Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science or equivalent

  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proven verbal and written communication skills for direct customer interaction

  • Strong leadership skills

  • 4 or more years of experience in Information Technology discipline

  • 2 or more years experience supporting Refining or Midstream IT assets

  • Previous experience installing and troubleshooting cable plant, including copper and fiber

  • Ability to influence individuals and groups

  • Ability to create an environment of inclusiveness and foster communication

  • Ability to engender trust and confidence

  • Active learner with good business knowledge

  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative and results driven effort

The San Francisco Refinery consists of two facilities linked by a 200-mile pipeline. The Santa Maria facility is located in Arroyo Grande, California, 200 miles south of San Francisco, California, while the Rodeo facility is in the San Francisco Bay Area. Semi-refined liquid products from the Santa Maria facility are shipped by pipeline to the Rodeo facility for upgrading into finished petroleum products. Facilities include crude distillation, naphtha reforming, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units, as well as a calciner. The San Francisco Refinery processes a mixture of heavy, high sulfur and light sweet crude oil. It receives California crude oil by pipeline, and both domestic and foreign crude oil by tanker. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. It also produces CARB-grade gasoline. Other products include petroleum coke. The majority of the refined products are distributed to California by pipeline and barge. Additional refined products are also exported to Latin America by waterborne cargo.
