Market Analyst, Renewables & Feedstocks
The Renewable Fuels & Feedstocks Market Analyst will provide fundamental commodity market analysis for renewable fuels such as ethanol, biodiesel and renewable diesel (HVO); as well as renewable feedstocks including vegetable oils and their base crops such as palm oil, soybean oil, soybeans, corn oil, corn, canola oil, canola, etc. Other feedstocks market analysis will include tallow and other animal fats, greases and used cooking oil. The fundamental analysis of the evolving Asian carbon credit markets and regulatory programs will be one of the responsibilities in this role and as well as supporting the global trading and business development of renewables, feedstocks and agriculture markets for the Singapore Renewables Trading Desk. The key responsibility of this role is to assist in consolidating the business strategy and plans into concise, coherent means of communication. In addition, this position will interact with Value Chain Supply & Optimization, Emerging Energy, Refining, Marketing, Regulatory & Compliance, Risk, F&PA, the Chief Economists Office, Investor Relations, Commercial Senior Management and Executive Management.
Responsibilities May Include
Develop a comprehensive understanding of commodity trading, including key supply/demand regions, logistics assets, storage facilities, regulatory/sustainability frameworks and financial instruments used in these markets. The understanding of key trading and development strategies is crucial for success.
Communicate market fundamentals, trading strategies and other renewables information with Global Renewables Trading team and Commercial leadership.
Assist in the regulatory and sustainability needs of the Singapore Renewables Trading Desk.
Understand key trading positions of commodity trading to ensure all aspects of a trading position are understood.
Develop and maintain of supply and demand models which involve working closely with the trading function to understand the market and trends, incorporate downtime, seasonal cycles, macroeconomic variables and utilize import/export data to ensure the models are accurate and accepted by trading. Identify market anomalies and communicate to the trading desk on what physical market and forward market changes might occur.
Work with third party consultants and brokers to understand and evaluate on their views for renewables markets
Gather external business intelligence, analyse and communicate results to assist traders and originators with successful implementation of tactics.
Understand and communicate geopolitical and regulatory events/factors which impact price movements.
Gather information to assist in development of presentations as needed.
Share knowledge freely to improve peers’ group understanding of own niche markets.
Lead ad-hoc projects and analysis of market fundamentals (including infrastructure changes) to support trade ideas.
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Finance, Economics or Agriculture disciplines
1 or more years’ experience in market analysis
Minimum 2 years’ experience in the energy, agriculture or renewables industries with good knowledge of agriculture and renewable fuels
Knowledge of commodity trading, refining or petrochemicals industries
Familiar with environmental regulatory programs
Experience with business development projects
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Some basic understanding of SQL, Tableau, Python, Visual Basic and/or R SQL
Proficiency with statistical modeling software, database software, and/or economic modeling
Excellent written and oral communication, inter-personal and presentation skills
High degree of initiative and collaborative skills
Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to quickly evolving requirements
Strong ethics, drive and dedication to achieve team and general interests objectives
