Description
The Electrical Engineer is a sole contributor that works closely with multi-discipline teams to support a production area. They are a proven problem solver that provides technical expertise for routine maintenance, projects, and preventative maintenance programs within their assigned production area. The electrical engineer works with maintenance supervisors and electricians to safely install, operate, and maintain electrical power distribution systems.
Responsibilities may include
Collaborating with operations and maintenance teams to drive continuous improvements and reliability of electrical components, equipment, and systems
Providing technical expertise for troubleshooting of equipment, including power distribution systems, motor controls, switch gear, UPS systems, and substation equipment
Assisting with maintenance planning and execution of major equipment repairs and unit turnarounds
Supporting refinery electricians outside of normal business hours as needed
Directing and advising the application of company standards in electrical design, equipment specifications, construction and equipment commissioning
Conducting system analysis studies (load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, relay coordination, motor starting, arc flash) and work to correct deficiencies using the latest version of SKM Power Tools electrical engineering analysis software
Managing protective relays settings and making recommendations to improve reliability
Recommending vendors for purchase of equipment and providing technical review of bids
Supporting projects and major maintenance by providing technical guidance
Participating in long term planning for maintenance and equipment replacement
Active participation in technical networks; developing/implementing best practices
Train personnel on electrical safety, operating and maintaining electrical equipment, and engineering best practices
Lead or participate in root cause analysis of equipment failures and incident investigations
Develop and maintain electrical safe work practices, electrical procedures, and electrical engineering standards and specifications
Perform audits on people, equipment, and systems for compliance to policies and procedures
Required Qualifications
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country without restrictions
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Valid driver’s license
Willing and able to respond to off-hour callouts on an as needed basis to support refinery operating requirements
Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
Preferred Qualifications
3 or more years of electrical engineering design and/or electrical equipment maintenance in refining or similar industrial setting, including power distribution systems
3 or more years of experience in power distributions systems for voltage levels up to 34.5 kV
Installation or maintenance experience in Protection Relays, VFD’s, Transformers, Breakers, and /or Motors
Strong written and verbal communication skills, must be able to accurately and clearly communicate both technical and practical information
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, must be able to lead and influence in a diverse team-based working environment
The Wood River Refinery is located in Roxana, Illinois, about 15 miles northeast of St. Louis, Missouri, at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, low-sulfur; heavy, high sulfur; and high-acid crude oil. The crude supply is sourced domestically or from Canada. Wood River produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed to customers by pipeline, rail car, barge and truck and are shipped to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
