The Instrumentation & Electrical Reliability Engineer analyzes equipment histories, and trends; recommends and implements procedures, strategies, equipment, or designs that will eliminate defects and improve equipment reliability. The also coordinates reliability program improvements and performs engineering in support of site maintenance activities across multiple disciplines. This position provides technical support to the refinery to identify and eliminate equipment failures, improve the quality of new installations, operation of assets, maintenance repairs, and ensure work is done in accordance with required standards, best practices and applicable regulations and industry codes, and is responsible for providing guidance to management and organizational partners in respective field.
The Reliability Team was developed to focus on the refinery as a whole, to key in on specific issues with the greatest impact on overall refinery performance. The multi-disciplined team works to generate ideas and actions, working with area personnel, and drives them through implementation, to improve performance of ‘bad actor’ equipment and systems.
Responsibilities may include:
Champion the Bad Actor improvement process through identification and implementation of solutions.
Lead failure analysis and develop Cause Maps as part of the RCA process
Assist area discipline engineers with troubleshooting of instrumentation/electrical issues with process equipment to identify defects and develop long term corrective recommendations.
Optimize preventative maintenance strategies based on equipment criticality and history.
Develop equipment asset strategies and champion reliability improvements through the implementation process.
Identifies key system reliability indicators and ensures they are monitored, analyzed, and acted upon to increase equipment operational availability
Maintain key Reliability metrics around equipment repair history, cost, lost profit opportunity, rework, etc.
Communicate Reliability concerns, solutions, and trends effectively to the organization
Provide cost estimates, secure equipment, and follow construction through to commissioning on certain reliability improvement projects
Ensure MOC compliance
Periodic back fill for area discipline engineers and/or support for turnarounds
Willing and able to respond to and assist with unexpected emergencies and after-hour call outs
Basic Qualifications:
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
5 or more years of experience in the refining, petrochemical, or related industry as an Instrumentation or Electrical engineer.
Willing and able to respond to and assist with unexpected emergencies and after-hour call outs

Preferred Qualifications:
7 or more years of experience working as a discipline engineer having experience in both instrumentation and electrical.
Familiar with Reliability Principles (i.e. Weibull Analysis, Reliability Modeling, MTBF, etc.)
Experience with SAP and Reliability Software (i.e., APM, Meridium)
Familiarity with DCS and PLC platforms, including software and hardware components
Installation and maintenance experience in Protection Relays, VFD’s, Transformers, Breakers, and /or Motors
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of the organization
The Wood River Refinery is located in Roxana, Illinois, about 15 miles northeast of St. Louis, Missouri, at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, low-sulfur; heavy, high sulfur; and high-acid crude oil. The crude supply is sourced domestically or from Canada. Wood River produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, asphalt and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed to customers by pipeline, rail car, barge and truck and are shipped to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
